Porvion is a computational tool, not a substitute for engineering judgement.
You may build models and run simulations without creating an account. Porvion may record the legal versions accepted and recognise that choice across temporary guest-session replacements. Selected de-identified payloads, datasets and statistics may also be retained for quality assurance, monitoring, validation and service improvement. You remain responsible for your inputs, assumptions and verification of the results.
Scope and acceptance of these Terms
These Terms of Use (“Terms”) govern access to and use of the Porvion website, simulation workspace and related features made available through porvion.eu.
Merely viewing the public website does not necessarily create a contractual relationship. Before the first server-side simulation, the interface may require you to select an acceptance control confirming that you have read and agree to the version of these Terms then in effect.
When you select the acceptance control, Porvion may record the version of these Terms accepted, the version of the Privacy Policy presented and acknowledged, and the date and time of the action. A server-issued and server-verified technical cookie may be used to recognise the same choice if the temporary guest session expires, is replaced or receives a new technical identifier.
Recognition of a previous acceptance does not restore an expired guest session, simulation files, results or plots. Where these Terms are materially updated, Porvion may require acceptance of the new version before another server-side simulation can be started.
Do not use the simulator if you do not agree to these Terms, including the limited licence and technical-retention provisions described below. The Privacy Policy separately explains how personal data is processed, the legal bases relied upon and the rights available to users. It is provided for information and does not constitute a general request for consent.
What Porvion provides
Porvion is a browser-based software environment for creating two-dimensional mechanical systems. Depending on the features currently available, users may define points, rods, rigid assemblies, springs, dampers, constraints, initial conditions and external loads, run server-side numerical simulations, and inspect motion, reactions, statistics, plots and other generated results.
The current version is offered free of charge, without mandatory registration and with limited computing resources. Certain features may be experimental, incomplete, temporarily unavailable or introduced progressively.
Porvion may later introduce user accounts, paid plans, expanded functionality or service-specific conditions. Any paid or additional service will be accompanied by the relevant information and terms before purchase or activation.

Eligibility and authority to use Porvion
You must have the legal capacity required under applicable law to enter into a valid agreement and must be capable of understanding the technical nature of the service.
Porvion is not directed at children. Minors may use the service only with the permission and, where appropriate, supervision of a parent, legal guardian, teacher or other responsible adult.
If you use Porvion on behalf of a company, university, school or other organisation, you represent that you are authorised to do so and, where applicable, to bind that organisation to these Terms.
Guest sessions, temporary storage and technical limits
The simulator creates a temporary guest session using a technical identifier. Models, intermediate files and results may be associated with that session and processed on Porvion's server infrastructure for as long as necessary to provide the service.
Guest sessions and their live files are not a storage or backup service. Under the current configuration, deletion of the live session directory is ordinarily scheduled approximately eight hours after the last WebSocket connection is closed, unless the user reconnects or temporary retention is required for technical, security or legal reasons.
Expiry or replacement of the session cookie, disconnection, restart, software failure or other technical events may make previous results and plots unavailable. You are responsible for exporting or otherwise retaining anything you consider important.
The technical record used to recognise acceptance of the current Terms is separate from the temporary guest session. A new guest-session identifier may therefore be generated without requiring the same version of these Terms to be accepted again, provided that Porvion can still verify the previous acceptance record.
The legal-acceptance record is not a user account, does not provide access to a history of simulations and does not associate the new guest session with expired simulation files or results.
Deletion of the live guest-session directory does not necessarily remove a separate de-identified technical record that has already been selected for Porvion's quality archive. That archive is governed by the dedicated section below and is not intended to function as a user-accessible backup.
The free version may apply limits to:
- the number and type of model elements;
- simulation duration, time step and number of samples;
- the number of simulations or plots that may be started within a given period;
- connections, requests, message sizes and generated files;
- concurrent computing resources and maximum processing time;
- the volume and frequency of post-processing requests.
Limits may change to protect security, stability and service availability or to reflect product development. Limits shown in the current interface take precedence over illustrative values described elsewhere.
Acceptable use and prohibited conduct
You may use Porvion for lawful education, research, prototyping, analysis and development, subject to these Terms, applicable law and the rights of others.
You must not:
- attempt to access another user's session, directories, results or data;
- bypass rate limits, free-tier restrictions, security controls or resource constraints;
- open connections or submit automated requests in a manner that overloads, disrupts or degrades the service;
- introduce malware, malicious payloads, unauthorised command execution or content intended to compromise systems or networks;
- perform vulnerability testing, scanning, probing, mass scraping or reverse engineering without prior permission, except to the extent that such activity cannot lawfully be restricted;
- use Porvion for fraud, unlawful activity or infringement of intellectual property, trade secrets, privacy or confidentiality obligations;
- deliberately include personal identifiers, confidential labels, identifying filenames or unrelated free text in a scenario where doing so is unnecessary for the simulation;
- resell, sublicense or present the free service as your own hosted service without a written agreement;
- remove ownership notices, attributions or technical protection measures.
Good-faith security research must be agreed with the Operator in advance and must not put users, data or service availability at risk.
Your models, parameters and other content
You retain any rights you hold in original models, parameters, descriptions and other content that you submit to Porvion.
Licence needed to run the requested simulation
To provide the service, you grant the Operator a limited, non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to receive, temporarily copy, process, convert and transmit your content as necessary to:
- build the simulation context;
- run the requested solver and post-processing operations;
- generate results, datasets, statistics and plots;
- diagnose errors and protect the infrastructure.
This operational licence ends when the relevant content is deleted from active systems, subject to short-lived technical copies, security logs, legal retention and any separate de-identified record retained under the quality-archive licence below.
Licence for de-identified technical records
You grant the Operator a separate, non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free licence to create and retain a de-identified technical version of selected simulation inputs and outputs, and to use that version solely for quality assurance, numerical monitoring, validation, benchmarking, error reproduction, regression testing, security, performance analysis, internal research and development, and improvement of Porvion.
This licence covers selected simulation payloads, element properties, geometry, constraints, solver settings, generated datasets, numerical results, reactions, convergence information, performance measurements and statistics. It does not authorise Porvion to present the original scenario as its own work, sell the scenario as a standalone model, use it for behavioural advertising or intentionally identify the person who submitted it.
The quality-archive licence continues for the retention period described in these Terms and the Privacy Policy even after the live guest session has expired. It ends when the archived record is deleted, except that genuinely anonymous or aggregate information that no longer relates to an identified or reasonably identifiable person may continue to be used.
You represent that you have the right to submit the content and grant the licences described above. Do not submit personal data belonging to third parties, classified information, confidential engineering data, trade secrets or other protected materials unless you are authorised to do so and such retention is permitted by your legal, contractual and professional obligations.
Porvion does not acquire ownership of your original model merely because it processes or de-identifies it. Ownership remains with the person or organisation that lawfully holds the relevant rights; the licences above are limited to the stated operational and quality-improvement purposes.
Technical quality, monitoring and improvement archive
Porvion may select and retain de-identified copies of simulation payloads, generated datasets and statistics in a technical archive that is separate from the live guest-session directories.
The archive may be used to:
- monitor numerical quality, stability and consistency;
- reproduce and investigate software or solver errors;
- detect regressions following software updates;
- evaluate execution time, memory use and system capacity;
- build internal test cases and numerical benchmarks;
- validate statistics, plots and post-processing functions;
- improve Porvion's reliability, security and functionality.
Porvion is designed to exclude from the archive the
guest_id, IP address, contact details, active
session identifiers, request identifiers, original file paths
and other metadata that is not needed for those technical
purposes. Titles, descriptions, labels, filenames and
free-text fields should also be excluded where they may
identify a person or reveal unrelated information.
The archived version may receive a new technical identifier that is not intended to be derived from the guest session. Porvion does not intend to combine the archive with contact information, create a history of individual users or attempt to re-identify them.
De-identification cannot remove information that an authorised user deliberately embeds in geometry, labels, descriptions or other model content. You are therefore responsible for not submitting information that you are not authorised to disclose or allow Porvion to retain for the purposes described here.
De-identified archived records may be retained for up to 36 months, subject to periodic review and earlier deletion when no longer reasonably useful for the stated purposes. Genuinely anonymised and aggregate statistics may be retained for longer where they no longer relate to an identified or reasonably identifiable person.
The quality archive is not a backup service and is not designed to let users recover, retrieve or manage their previous scenarios. Archived records may be transformed, reduced, combined into benchmarks or deleted at any time.
Numerical results and your technical responsibility
Porvion relies on mathematical models, assumptions, discretisation and numerical methods. Results depend on, among other things, the correctness of the geometry, constraints, physical properties, units, initial conditions, loads, time step, solver configuration and convergence criteria selected by the user.
You are responsible for:
- checking the physical and dimensional consistency of the model;
- reviewing assumptions, signs, units and boundary conditions;
- assessing numerical convergence, stability and sensitivity;
- comparing results with analytical solutions, benchmarks, experimental evidence or validated software where appropriate;
- obtaining review by a suitably qualified professional before using results in real-world work.
Porvion is not currently certified for safety-critical engineering, mandatory structural verification, regulatory certification, medical devices, aerospace, nuclear, automotive safety or any other decision where an error could cause harm to people, property or the environment. Do not use Porvion results as the sole basis for decisions in those contexts.
Graphical representations, animations and rounded values in the interface are provided for visualisation and may not show the full precision of the underlying numerical data.
Beta service, maintenance and changes
Porvion is provided in its current form on an “as is” and “as available” basis. During development, users may encounter defects, regressions, delays, incomplete results, interface changes or temporary unavailability.
The Operator may modify, limit, replace, suspend or discontinue features for maintenance, security, technical development, infrastructure costs or other legitimate project needs.
Porvion does not guarantee any minimum uptime, latency, capacity, browser compatibility or indefinite continuation of a particular free feature.
Where reasonably practicable, material changes will be communicated through the website or workspace. Urgent security measures may be implemented without advance notice.
Porvion intellectual property
The software, non-public source code, architecture, interface, design, text, logo, Porvion name, graphical assets and documentation belong to the Operator or the relevant licensors and are protected by applicable intellectual property laws.
These Terms grant only a personal, limited, non-exclusive, non-transferable and revocable right to use the service interface for its intended purpose.
Open-source libraries and third-party components remain governed by their respective licences. Nothing in these Terms modifies those licences.
Feedback and suggestions may be used to improve Porvion without an obligation to compensate the person submitting them, provided that doing so does not require the Operator to acquire confidential material or rights that were not intended to be granted.
The retention or transformation of a de-identified technical record under Section 8 does not transfer ownership of the original user model or any pre-existing intellectual-property rights to the Operator.
Suspension, restriction and termination of access
The Operator may reject requests, close connections, invalidate a guest session, delete temporary files or restrict access where reasonably necessary to:
- enforce these Terms;
- prevent abuse, attacks or excessive load;
- protect users and infrastructure;
- comply with legal obligations or authority requests;
- address maintenance, errors or discontinuation of the service.
Where a measure is not urgent and disclosure would not create a security risk, the Operator may provide an explanation or notice. Individual notice may not be possible for anonymous guest sessions.
You may stop using Porvion at any time, close the browser and remove the site's stored data using your browser settings. Removing the technical acceptance cookie may cause the current Terms notice to be shown again. Ending use or deleting browser storage does not automatically remove a de-identified technical record already retained in the quality archive. Rights relating to personal data are described in the Privacy Policy.
Warranties and limitation of liability
To the extent permitted by applicable law, Porvion does not warrant that the service will be error-free, continuously available, fit for a particular purpose or capable of producing correct results for every model.
The Operator is not responsible for losses arising solely from:
- incorrect parameters, models or assumptions supplied by the user;
- use of results without the technical checks reasonably required for the relevant purpose;
- loss of a guest session or failure to save models and results outside Porvion;
- temporary unavailability, maintenance, network issues, browser behaviour or third-party systems outside the Operator's control;
- prohibited, improper or unsupported use of the service;
- submission of confidential, proprietary or third-party material without sufficient authority;
- reliance on the quality archive as a backup, recovery or evidence-preservation service.
For users acting in a professional capacity, and to the extent permitted by law, the Operator excludes liability for indirect or consequential loss, loss of profit, opportunity, production, data or goodwill that was not reasonably foreseeable at the time of use.
Nothing in these Terms excludes or limits liability for fraud, wilful misconduct, gross negligence, death or personal injury attributable to the Operator, breach of mandatory legal duties or any other liability that cannot lawfully be excluded or limited.
If you are a consumer, all mandatory consumer rights and remedies remain unaffected. These Terms must not be interpreted as a prior waiver of rights that cannot legally be waived.
Governing law and dispute resolution
These Terms are governed by Italian law, without depriving consumers of any mandatory protection granted by the law of their country of habitual residence.
Before beginning formal proceedings, the parties are encouraged to attempt an amicable resolution by contacting contact@porvion.eu .
If you act as a consumer, jurisdiction is determined by the mandatory rules applicable to you, including, where required, the courts of your place of residence or domicile.
For users acting exclusively for business or professional purposes, the courts of the place where the Operator is established shall have jurisdiction, unless otherwise agreed in writing or required by mandatory law.
Personal data
The processing of personal data, the use of the temporary guest-session cookie and the technical cookie used to recognise acceptance of the current Terms, the creation of de-identified quality records, retention periods, legal bases and data-subject rights are described in the Porvion Privacy Policy.
The legal-acceptance mechanism is used to record and recognise the versions accepted; it is not used for advertising, behavioural profiling, cross-site tracking or analytics.
If these Terms and the Privacy Policy differ on a matter concerning personal-data processing, the Privacy Policy prevails for that matter.
Changes, validity and contact
Changes to these Terms
The Terms may be updated to reflect changes to the service, quality-archive practices, retention periods, applicable law, security measures or the commercial model. The date of the current version appears at the top of this page.
Material changes will be made visible before they take effect where reasonably practicable. Where a new acceptance is required, the interface may request it before allowing another server-side simulation. Acceptance of an earlier version does not automatically constitute acceptance of a materially revised version.
Severability
If any provision is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions remain effective. The affected provision will be interpreted or replaced only to the minimum extent necessary to make it lawful and as close as possible to its original purpose.
No waiver
A delay or failure to exercise a right does not waive that right.
